Away Days: Brunton Park

How many fans were there last night?

About 100

And what was the atmosphere like amongst them?

We were pretty quiet but were in high spirits. The home fans were quieter than something very quiet, and considering they have just reached a cup final (OK, only the LDV Vans Trophy) the amount of home fans was woeful.

What do you think to the ground?

Brunton Park is a great ground, when it is full and events on the pitch are interesting - like our 3-0 drubbing here last season. The East Stand where we are housed is a bit like Feethams in that is stands out against the rest of the stadium, although bizarrely this one doesn't actually line up with the pitch - a result of ground regeneration plans that were shelved under previous owner Michael `I have seen aliens` Knighton.

The view was excellent, though one would presume that if there was a large away following many would be placed beyond the end of the pitch - at least they would get a good view of the nearby Rugby club!

The pastie and Bovril was decent and resonably priced - even for a debt-ridden student like myself, what third division football is all about.

New chairman John Courtenay is looking into the options of a new ground, which would be a shame as BP has real character to it - even if parts of it resemble Kabul. I have been in the boardroom as well, and it is pretty tidy I can assure you.

Were the three points deserved?

I think so yes. It was a tight match, but they didn't create any clear cut chances other than the one Foran scored from and we forced Glennon into a couple of good saves. The home side looked nervous to start with, and there was a brilliant moment when Matty Glennon had a rant at Pete Murphy (the CUFC golden boy and captain). Overall we did a clinical job, and although the end was nervewracking they never looked like penetrating.

How good was Beagrie's goal?

Top class. It was from a central position, which always helps, but it was in the top corner and he made it look like something he does every day. Glennon had no chance. Credit also to the ref for making sure the wall was back by ten yards, otherwise Beags probably wouldn't have gone for it.

Reckon Carlisle will stay up based on the performance?

If the season was based on that performance, not a chance. They had nothing going forward and the only positive for them was a good defence, when they settled. It would be a shame if they do go down though, I've always enjoyed banter with their fans and trips to Brunton Park (with the exception of the 3-0 drubbing last year) have always been enjoyable.

Finally, are you confident going into next Saturday's game at Torquay.

If we're as professional as we were last night then I don't see why we can't bring something back, I'd be happy with a point. Third place is a realistic target, but to do that we need home wins rather than taking uneccesary chances away from Glanny Park.
