Away Days: Sincil Bank

Last updated : 11 May 2003 By Luke Thornhill
First things first - what do you think to Sincil Bank?

It is a dump! One decent stand down one side, one bizarre stand that is 100 foot high and five foot wide, a shed behind the end and a pointless stand four seats high at the other end. And a cowfield for a pitch.

Nice, so what was the atmosphere like among the lucky 1900 fans who were there?

Very good, we outsang them for the full 90 minutes even when we were 2-0 and 3-1 down.

Should it have been a free-kick for their first goal, and was their second offside?

To be honest with you I can't even remember the foul for their free-kick, but I'll say no anyway. As for the second goal, four of them were clearly lined up offside waiting for the ball to be hoofed back in.

When we pulled it back to 3-3 did you think we would go on to win it, or at least get a draw?

I thought we would at least make sure we got the draw, but we got a head of steam and went all out for the fourth leaving us exposed at the back. We should have slowed the game and took control of it at 3-3.

How bad was our defending throughout the game?

Awful, we need some pace in the back four badly. Strong's lack of pace meant he was getting caught out by the hoof over the top all the time and there was no organisation in there.

So, were Lincoln any good at all?

Yes. They are very good at blasting the ball as long and hard as they can in whatever direction they're facing.

What impact did Torps and Dalglish have after coming off the bench?

Torps should have come on earlier as once he did he totally unsettled their defence, really played havoc with them. Sparrow was having a quiet game and, as at Shrews, needed changing - Dalglish was alright going forward but not too willing to help out the defence.

Do you think that we can do enough on Wednesday night to go through?

Without a doubt. Can we defend as bad as that again? Can Lincoln score more than one goal again? No. We got two goals in two minutes so I'm sure we can get two in 90 on Wednesday.

And would you make any changes to the starting lineup for the game?

I'd bring Torpey in for one of the front two, probably Carruthers.
