Collins is one of three Terriers players linked with the Iron - Andy Butler and Robbie Williams, according to the Huddersfield Daily Examiner, are on the Iron's shopping list - and has held talks with Adkins.
"He is a player I would love to bring here to Scunthorpe but we are still a long, long way from a deal being reached," Adkins told the Scunthorpe Telegraph.
Collins has been with the Yorkshire side since 2004 when he signed professional terms with the club. He has made 197 appearances for them, scoring 22 goals.
