Adkins excited about possible signing

Adkins told the Scunthorpe Telegraph that a deal was virtually sealed for a player to come into Glanford Park, and said it would be "fair to say that new people will be coming" before the end of the transfer window.

"I am very excited about something. But I don't want to say too much at the moment for the simple reason that it might not happen." he said.

Scunthorpe still appear to lead the race for the Gateshead striker Lee Novak, and Adkins said United are the only side to have bid for the young forward.

United have not made a third bid, after reportedly offering £90,000, but have had further discussions with the Blue Square North club.
