United's 2-0 win over Huddersfield on Saturday sealed a memorable promotion to the Championship.

And with three games left to play, just one win would seal the club's first major honour since the 1957/58 Division Three (North) title.

"I know just how much it means for these supporters to be back at this level," declared Iron manager Adkins.

"I'm so proud to have been part of the team that has got them there.

"It has been an historic season for us, but we have led the table since the turn of the year and we deserve our success.

"It's time to savour the moment and then get ourselves prepared for the last three games of the season, because we don't just want promotion, we want to go up as champions.

"It's a terrific achievement for a club the size of Scunthorpe, and it is all down to hard work from everyone involved."

"Billy deserves all the plaudits that come his way. He has been magnificent for us, not just this season but also last.

"We are not a one-man band, it's very much a team effort, but it was fitting that Billy got the goals that sealed us promotion."
