The forward, 22, has not featured in any of the club's three pre-season games so far so he does not suffer an injury that prevents a move away from Glanford Park.

Although the club have maintained a silence on the transfer speculation around the forward, it appears an open secret they will only sell him if an offer of £2.5million is received.

Despite newspaper talk suggesting clubs like Celtic, Middlesbrough, Leeds, Blackpool and Newcastle are interested, Adkins is happy with how the former Southend man has looked on the training ground.

"There's been speculation all summer but credit to him, he's got his head down, he's training with a smile on his face and he's being very respectful to Scunthorpe United," he told the Football League website.

"One telephone call could change everything, but all we can do is control the controllables and that's what we'll continue to do."
