Adkins offers Laws backing

Two goals from Martin Paterson saw the Iron claim all three points on Tuesday night, after Deon Burton had put the Owls ahead.

"The table is very close. They have got a good manager at the club. I hope to see Brian afterwards, if he hasn't gone," insisted Adkins, who was physio under Laws, before his departure for South Yorkshire at the end of last year.

"Brian Laws did well for Scunthorpe for 10 years and that's why he got the opportunity to come to Sheffield Wednesday.

"He's a good guy. I've been in the dugout with him for 10 years and we shared the hard times. That's where people need to support him and be round him.

"We faced the abyss of the Conference (at Scunthorpe) a few years ago and I was there shoulder to shoulder.

"It's about sticking together through the hard times and if the right person is in place you stand by him.

"He should remain manager at Sheffield Wednesday. He's a good one.

"It's a volatile environment. People want immediate success.

"He nearly got to the play-offs last season. I don't know what has been going on at the club, but he's a good man.

"But I know it's a results-based business, like I'll find out when we start losing matches."

Laws didn't answer questions from the press after the game, instead leaving his assistant Russ Wilcox - who was also his No.2 at Glanford Park - to field the inevitable questions over his future.

"We obviously want to do well in every game, not just against Scunthorpe United," said Wilcox.

"But we spent a lot of years there and it adds that little bit of spice, it hurts me and Brian that bit more.

"We didn't transfer that on to the players at all. As far as they were concerned it was a home game and a chance to get three points."
