The FA Cup first round tie will have to be replayed at Glanford Park, and Adkins - who stepped up after Laws and Russ Wilcox left to take over at Sheffield Wednesday on Monday - was happy with the result.

"After a difficult week I cannot praise the player's professionalism and dedication enough," he said.

"The lads in our dressing room stood shoulder to shoulder with each other.

"The weather conditions were not conducive to good football, the ball was fizzing around."

Adkins singled out veteran players Andy Crosby and Ian Baraclough for praise.

The pair have been assisting Adkins, who has managerial experience in the League of Wales with Bangor, since Monday.

"I cannot emphasise enough the power and enthusiasm shown by the players out their, personiifed by Crosby," he added.

"He and Baraclough deserve so much credit. They've lead by example, and a are a credit to themselves and the football club."
