Adkins: We struggled in opening half

Kaspars Gorkss scored the only goal of the game for the Seasiders, as they recorded only their third league win of the season.

"We've always struggled here and in the first five or 10 minutes we were thinking here we go again," admitted Adkins.

"If you can't retain the ball it's always going to be difficult to get anything against a team as good as Blackpool.

"We got the message out to the players to retain the composure and not give anything away and then we were able to change it in the second-half.

"We felt Kelly Youga was being fouled when their goal went in and in the end we could have got something from a place where we've conceded five or six goals in previous visits."

United were almost gifted an equaliser when home keeper Paul Rachubka fumbled a shot from debutant Shaleum Logan, while Jonathan Forte screwed a late shot wide from six yards.

But, in truth, a point would have been largely undeserved for the Iron.

"In the first-half we were excellent, we totally dominated and all we needed was that goal, it was a great relief when it finally came," said home boss Simon Grayson.

"We rode our luck a bit after that but we deserved that for all the bad luck we've had in recent weeks."
