Agents to face tighter controls

The regulations are designed to bring greater clarity and transparency to the game and will supplement existing FIFA regulations which will continue to govern the activity of agents in international matters.

Accordingly, agents will now have to disclose payments, potential conflicts of interest and third parties who provide assistance in transactions. They will not be allowed to sign under-16s on contracts while clubs, their officials and employees may no longer have an interest in a licensed agent’s business.

In the transitional period while any of them continue to do so they may not use the services of that business.

Under a more robust licensing process consideration will be given to any criminal record and financial history (such as bankruptcy) and an applicant must not have acted as an unlicensed agent at any time in the previous two years.
