Stanton was charged with assault after an alleged incident on Frodingham Road Scunthorpe on November 10 2002, which left a man requiring six stitches.

The Scunthorpe right back has always maintained his innocence though, entering a plea of not guilty to Grimsby Crown Court in May 2003.

A club spokesperson today said: "The club always believed in Nathan's innocence, we hope this will now be the end of the matter and that the player can concentrate fully on his football."
