The first-half performance in particular brought criticism from Baraclough, who has yet to see his side win a match following his appointment as permanent manager.

"We were lethargic in the first 45 minutes and for the first time since I've been in charge we had a few harsh words and home truths at half-time and we got the reaction we wanted," he said.

"The players have to learn to compete for 90 minutes in this league. If you take the foot off the gas you will get nothing.

"It was a bad time to play Leicester. When Paulo Sousa was here you could see the players were not happy, for whatever reason. They were like a wounded animal. "Leicester are not a bottom three club. Whoever is next in charge will be a lucky chap because he will inherit a good squad."

Chris Powell's reign as caretaker manager will come to an end on Sunday, with Sven-Goran Eriksson due to be unveiled on Sunday morning.

"We've just lost a manager and it's been a very difficult 24 hours for the fans, players and everyone connected with the club," he said.

"We had a poor start to the season and just wanted everyone to stick together and bounce back. We did that with the three points and our season starts from now.

"We want to move forward from here as one and see a real progression for the rest of the season."
