Barnsley looking for some extra Hope!

Hope joined first division Gillingham from Glanford Park in July 2000 after United were relegated back down to the third division.

After his £250K move to Priestfield Hopey has won over the Gills fans, and will make his 100th consecutive appearance for the Kent club later today when he lines up against Wallsall.

A move appears unlikely though, as the loyal central defender has two years left on his current contract and is already in talks to extend his stay down south.

Gillingham chairman Paul Scally revealed the Tyke's interest  yesterday in the Medway Standard.

"I get phone calls every day from other chairman expressing an interest in our players," said Scally.

"They are almost invariably general inquiries rather than serious offers and that included Barnsley and Chris Hope."

"As it happens I believe we are close to concluding a deal for an extension to Chris' current contract."
