Barrow bid to extend Shabba loan

Bluebirds boss Lee Turnbull, who is also Football in the Community officer at Glanford Park, has held talks with Iron boss Brian Laws.

Rankine joined the Iron from Barrow last season, but returned to the club on loan last month when it became clear his first-team opportunities in North Lincolnshire were limited.

The initial one-month deal expires after Saturday's game against Stalybridge Celtic, with the player keen to extend his spell back in South Cumbria.

One sticking point may be Barrow's involvement in the early rounds of the FA Cup - their campaign kicks off in the coming weeks.

But United could allow him to extend his loan on condition of not being played in the Cup games.

Rankine's only first-team goal for Scunthorpe came on his debut last season, when he came off the bench against Bury and scored to seal a dramatic 1-0 win.
