The 40-year-old former Everton and Manchester City star signed a one-year deal at the basement division side on Tuesday.

And he made the short walk down the A180 because he was attracted by the style of football new boss Rodger, who replaced Russell Slade this summer, wants his side to practice.

He declared: "I'm pleased that I have had a few offers but I'm here because Graham says that Grimsby are going to play football.

"It's a lovely big pitch here and I've had some good performances at Grimsby. I'm very impressed with the manager and how he wants to go about things.

"I fancy playing on for another year, but I'm at Grimsby because the way they are going to play football."

Beagrie left Glanford Park little over a week ago, after the club turned down his request for a part-time contract.

Although it is unclear what type of deal he has with the Cods, he will be keen to keep his work as a TV pundit.

He added: "I have spent the summer agonising over a few things. I have had quite a lot of offers, which in some senses surprised me.

"I was very impressed with the manager, and how he wants to go about things and he said I'll be a welcome addition."
