United were up 4-0 at the break following an early Gary Hooper hat-trick. He twice rounded the Brigg keeper deftly before placing the ball into the unguarded net, with the other goal also from close range.

On the stroke of half time Grant McCann curled a sweet free kick low to the goalkeeper's left to make it four.

It was more or less all change at the break with only Jake Picton getting a full game, and second half substitutes Hurst and May combined to add a fifth. A delighful ball from the right was powered home by May who looked hungry for goals in the second half.

He fired home another four in the closing stages including another header from a brilliant Godden cross, and a shot that nearly broke the net late on.

Other second half goalscorers included Jake Picton, Michael O'Connor and Peter Winn. O'Connor's a mazy dribble before rounding the keeper and sliding the ball home, Winn's a far post snap shot and Picton powering home a header just underneath the crossbar.

Jonathan Forte and David Mirfin were the only players missing from tonight's squad.
