Byrne agrees new deal

The 25-year-old had another year to run on his current deal but a new one has been agreed to keep the right-back at the club for a further two seasons.

Byrne, who can also play in the centre of defence, joined the Iron from Sunderland four years ago following a successful loan spell at Glanford Park midway through the 2002/03 season.

He has made over 170 appearances for the club, with 30 of them coming last year during Scunthorpe's League One title-winning success.
