Byrne gets U21 call up

Byrne, along with Black Cat teammates Thomas Butler and Sean Thornton, have been called up for the matches against Georgia on March 28 and ALbania four days later.

Byrne returned to the Stadium of Light to try and impress boss Howard Wilkinson and earn himself a new contract there.

Since his return Wilkinson however has been sacked, and former Ireland manager Mick McCarthy has come in to replace him.

If Byrne is not offered a new deal in the summer then there is every chance that he will return to Scunthorpe United on a permanent deal.
