Byrne has spent the past three months on loan at Glanford Park from Sunderland, but if the two club's can not agree a transfer deal then yesterday's victory against Hull will have been his last game for the club.

Sunderland are apparently willing to allow the Ireland U21 international to leave the Stadium Of Light, and he could be back at Glanford Park in the near future.

Iron manager Brian Laws confirmed last night that the club are in negotiations with the Black Cats over a deal.

"I have asked the chairman to speak to their directors," he said.

Byrne meanwhile says that he has enjoyed his time in North Lincolnshire, in particular yesterday's win.

"It feels tremendous. Iit is one for the fans really, to stuff the local team," he admitted, before saying that he would be willing to make a pernament switch to GP.

"If I get a good offer from Scunthorpe United I will seriously consider it," he admitted.

"I am suspended for three weeks anyway so it is not as if I have to rush a decision."
