Celebration for Study United

Last updated : 19 September 2005 By Chris Mumby
Since launching in 2003, the centre has seen more than 2,000 members walk through its doors.

The facility has been a major success, and acts as a teaching aid for local schoolchildren.

The launch will give 80 invited guests the chance to have a tour of the Study Centre and to meet the staff, mentors and children attending the Playing for Success initiative.

Dave Richards (chairman of the Football Foundation and the Premier League) will be presented with commemorative piece.

The launch will celebrate the Centre's range of learning programmes. These include:

  • Playing for Success – an out of school hours learning programme for under achievers at Key Stage two and three.
  • Extra Time @ Study United – a family learning programme.
  • The Language of Football – online materials for GCSE French.
  • Star Players - Gifted and Talented challenge activities for key stage two.
  • Inside Iron: Marketing at Glanford Park – customised curriculum materials for GCSE Leisure and Tourism.
  • Heading for Success – ASDAN awards for key stage four low achievers.
  • Reading the Game – a ‘Reading Is Fundamental' initiative from the National Literacy Trust.

Also participating in the event will be the council's Fit for Football scheme; a health promotion programme led by Scunthorpe United's Football in the Community team.
