Coventry and Hartlepool show Byrne-ing desire

Byrne's contract at Sunderland runs out at the end of June meaning the young central defender still has plenty of time to consider his options.

Coventry City are thought to be favourites to land the Irishman’s signature but Byrne has stayed in touch with Scunthorpe boss Brian Laws who must still feel he has at least a chance of signing the 21 year-old.

Byrne spent three months on loan at United earlier in the season and has been spotted in the Glanford Park stands since, so it’s no secret that Byrne is top of the Iron's summer shopping list.
