The Iron get off to an interesting start with a trip to hotly-tipped Brentford, closely followed by home games with Paul Hayes and Richard Kell's new club Barnsley, and relegated Gillingham.

A week later United face a trip to Gary Megson's Nottingham Forest, and the 32-year-old defender sees the games as a real test.

He told the Scunthorpe Telegraph: "Brentford away is going to be a tough opener for us.

"Their manager Martin Allen moulded them into a unit that were hard to beat last season.

"Then Barnsley for our first home game. Wow! It's a local derby and I'm sure the fans will be up for that one.

"There will be added spice with the return of Hayesy to Glanford Park and I look forward to playing against him!

"It's important we get as many points on the board as we can as quickly as possible."
