Nolan impressed fans with some excellent performances in the Championship whilst on loan from Preston in the 2010/2011 season and signed a permanent deal the following summer.
The Irishman has been without a club since being released by Alan Knill in the summer, but has returned to training with the club according to BBC Radio Humberside.
No contract offer has yet been made, however United may look to offer him a short term deal following the news that Christian Ribeiro will be out for at least a month after picking up a hamstring injury.
