He has been in and out of the UK on business but was back to watch United at Wembley on Sunday and has urged Scunthorpe fans to get behind the players in order to see them reach the national stadium again, in the play offs.

"We really need our supporters to get behind the players now", he told the Scunthorpe Telegraph.

"They made a fantastic noise at Wembley and we really need them to back the team now"

Elliot, who was a prominent figure in the away enclosure during the calamatous 2003/04 season, continued, "I know how disappointed the fans were. I felt just the same.

"I think we will come out stronger after Sunday's disappointment."
