Evans make international debut

Doncaster-born Evans was included in the starting lineup but was picking the ball out of the back of the net in the 23rd minute when West Ham midfielder Don Hutchinson finished from close range.

A lack of communication between Evans and Partick Thistle defender Stephen Craigan lead to Scotland's second, with Kevin Kyle pouncing on James McFadden's cross.

Crewe Alexandra froward Steve Jones pulled one back for Northern Ireland in the 57th minute, but it was little more than a consolation strike.
