United are set to hand goalkeeper Tommy Evans his first start of the season in the FA Cup second round at Aldershot.

Evans has been restricted to the reserves since Paul Musselwhite rejoined the club in the summer of 2004, but BBC Radio Humberside report that he will be picked ahead of Musselwhite.

Veteran winger Peter Beagrie, who turned 40 on Monday, is also hoping for a recall after sitting out four weeks' worth of action with a hamstring injury.

Jim Goodwin and Richard Hinds are banned, while Matty Sparrow (knock) and Nathan Stanton (knee) are both ruled out.

Iron manager Brian Laws knows that the game at the Recreation Ground will not be easy for Scunthorpe, even though on paper they are clear favourites against the Conference outfit.

He told PA Sport: "It will be a tough game, there is no easy ride in the Cup. Aldershot will make it difficult, but we have to show our qualities.

"If we are on top of our game we should have no problems, but we have seen many times that the Conference side will always make it difficult."

There will be a pitch inspection at 8am to decide whether the pitch is playable after heavy rain on Friday, travelling fans are advised to check the official SUFC website (www.scunthorpe-united.co.uk) or 95.9 BBC Radio Humberside.
