Iron manager Brian Laws had admitted an interest in the former fan favourite, but with the Latics' future now seemingly secured manager Iain Dowie is looking to tie Eyre down to the Boundary Park club.

The sale of Josh Low to Northampton in a £165,000 deal means that Eyre will now be offered a new deal to stay with the club where he started his career.

Dowie said: "It's a numbers game and we'll hopefully use the money to get David Eyres, John Eyre, Ernie Cooksey and Julien Baudet."
