United have offered an intial payment of £30,000 followed two further payments the same amount based on appearances.

Novak, 20, has scored 15 times for the Blue Square North side and, according to the Non-League Paper, has also caught the eye of Huddersfield United, Leeds Untied and Rochdale.

Ten per cent of any fee Gateshead receive must go to his former club Newcastle Blue Star. Novak is out of contract in the summer so will be free to move regardless of whethe Gateshead accept a bid, but they wil be entitled to a transfer fee as he is under 24.

"Scunthorpe are trying to nick him with an offer which we think is derisory," Bogie told the Non-League Paper.

"We are not in a position to stand in a young player's way but we need to look after our best interests, and that's to keep Lee until at least the end ofthe season with promotion our aim."
