Hayes criticises Barnsley offer

Hayes is out of contract at the Tykes, and expects to move on this summer.

He has had contact with United manager Nigel Adkins over a move back to Glanford Park, two seasons after quitting the club for Barnsley.

The Yorkshire side have offered him a contract to stay at Oakwell, but Hayes insists it is no more than a ploy to guarantee a transfer fee.

They must allow him to leave if he wants to, but as he is under 24 they are entitled to money from any club he joins - set by a tribunal if neccesary.

"They've offered me a deal I feel is a bit disrespectful, they're worried they won't get any money for me if I leave," Hayes told BBC Radio Sheffield.

"If Barnsley want to sit down and negotiate I will listen to them but I've had no communication from them about that.

"They've basically told me to sign the contract or go."
