The 35 year old joins United until the end of the season, a day after being released by League One side Doncaster Rovers who cancelled his contract by mutual consent.

The former Swindon, Manchester City, West Ham and Ipswich player was released on Monday (7th January) after injuries kept him out of the side at the Keepmoat.

Rovers boss Sean O'Driscoll said: "I havent been involved in any talks with Scunthorpe, but I believe they have offered him a deal until the end of the season.

"That would suit Kevin because not only does it mean that he can keep his kids in the same school, but it also gives him the chance to get himself fit and start playing again and win himself a deal for next season as well if things work out well for him."

Adkins has so far made no comment about the arrival of the seasoned midfielder.
