Impossible pitch to play on

Neither side managed to play much flowing football, and surprisingly both managers reckoned that they would have won had the game been played on a better pitch.

Laws said: "It's a disgusting pitch and that's why you've got rubbish football. To try and pass on there is virtually impossible because the ball takes about 17 bobbles.

"You've got to dig deep and wait for something freakish to happen to give you a half chance. But I think we deserved a draw for the effort we put in.

Opposite number Andy Preece was critical of the surface a couple of weeks ago but said: "If we played Scunthorpe on a decent pitch it would have been a different result - and we would have won.

"They score goals freely but our keeper did not have a save to make in the entire game.

"They came here with a game plan and that's why they were pleased to get a point."
