Clifford Byrne, who is set to play for Ireland U21's against Scotland this week, was shown a straight red card after appearing to bring down fromer Brigg Town and Hull City midfielder Mark Greaves.

The 52nd minute decision, by Premiership referee Andy D'Urso, turned the tide of the match.

Iron fans listening in on BBC Radio Humberside heard expert summariser Tony Daws blast the decision, and manager Brian Laws later confirmed that the club were likely to appeal against the decision.

"There was no way cliff went to try and hurt anybody," said former Iron forward Daws, "It might have been a yellow card for being late, but I don't even think it was that."

Brian Laws later admitted that Byrne was late, but claimed that there was no malice in the challenge.

"I'm looking forward to seeing it again on television, and maybe even appealing for it," he said.
