The squad flew out to the Republic of Ireland on Sunday, for a week of training based at Limerick - in the south of the country.

The Iron will play Limerick FC at Hogan Park on Monday, and Cobh Ramblers on Wednesday - the third and fourth games of their pre-season.

Laws said: "We will be training at Limerick University for a week, and I would like to thank Limerick FC and Cobh Ramblers for agreeing to the friendlies.

"Because the eircom League is in mid-season we are expecting two competitive games in Limerick and Cork, and that is exactly what we need to prepare for the new season."

Limerick should be boosted for Monday's game by the guest appearance of former Ireland U-21 midfielder John McGrath for his hometown club.

He is a free agent after being released by Aston Villa, but is waiting to see if York or Darlington offer him a contract - which would rule him out of the game.

McGrath said: "I would love to line out for Limerick on Monday night and I would like to thank Limerick chairman Danny Drew for inviting me, but it all depends on whether I am offered a contract over the next few days."

Former Macclesfield and Port Vale defender Christian Cooke is also likely to play as he looks to win himself a contract at the eircom Division One side.
