With two games left to play, United lead second-placed Bristol City by six points.

And with a vastly superior goal difference, it means the first major honour since the 1957/58 Division Three (North) championship is as good as in the bag.

It caps a memorable season for the Iron, and means they have the luxury of knowing they already have the title sewn-up with two games left to play.

City look set to claim the second automatic promotion spot, after their 3-1 win over Carlisle kept them ahead of nearest challengers Nottingham Forest.

Chesterfield lolive to fight another day despite their loss at Northampton, results elsewhere mean they're not mathematically relegated - though it would take a minor miracle to keep them up.

In the Championship, Southend's defeat at Plymouth looks to have condemned them to relegation. Leeds' loss at Southampton keeps them in trouble, but Nick Barmby's late equaliser at Stoke saw Hull edge away from the drop.

Swindon look close to sealing promotion from League Two, with just a point needed from their remaining two games to seal a top three spot.

Watford will be heading to Glanford Park next season, after the Hornets were relegated to the Championship from the Premiership.
