Johnson, whose home shirt will be sponsored by Iron-Bru.net, has amassed transfer fees of more than £5million throughout his career and joins on a Bosman from Championship side Sheffield United.

He is a dangerous player in and around the box, and is known to drift deadly away from his marker.

He spent the end of last season at the Blades, but only made one competitive appearance for them after joining them from Gillingham in February.

Before moving to Brammall Lane, the Newcastle-born striker had scored twice in eight games for the Gills - before leaving the club when Stan Ternent replaced Andy Hessenthaler as boss.

The 34-year-old begain his career as a trainee at Notts County, helping the Magpies reach the top flight in the early 90s, before moving to Derby and then Aston Villa - both in £1m+ moves.

In 1997 he joined Scottish giants Celtic for £2.3m, but saw his career at the Hoops cut short by injury.

He did though enjoy some success at Parkhead, which included scoring the goal which won the 2000-01 Scottish Premier League title - as the Bhoys won the Scottish domestic treble.

And he netted in the 2000 CIS Insurance Cup final win over Aberdeen.
