Butler returned to the starting line-up for the 1-1 draw with Bristol City at Ashton Gate, but was sent clattering into the advertising hoardings and had to be replaced by Cliff Byrne after 54 minutes.
United physio Nigel Adkins was unable to identify the injury at the ground, and will conduct further tests on Monday if the problem is still there.
Iron boss Brian Laws told
BBC Radio Humberside: "He was having a good game, and looking like his old self again.
