Jackson left United last month to join League Two strugglers Kidderminster, but after a season spent largely on the bench the former Iron captain still believes he was right to quit Leeds United in favour of North Lincolnshire.

He told the PFA website: "A lot of people asked me why I was signing for Scunthorpe, but I know it was the right move.

"It was a good experience working under such an experienced manager as George Graham, but David O'Leary had his own ideas. It was frustrating for me, but I never believe in looking back and thinking what might have been."

Kidderminster picked up a key win over Cheltenham at the weekend, and are now just four points behind third-bottom Rushden and Diamonds.

Jackson said: "I wouldn't have joined if I didn't think we could avoid relegation.

"I think I have signalled my intent by signing an 18-month contract rather than come here and go through the motions - I will move down with my family in the summer and am here for the duration.

"I have played at this level for four years with Scunthorpe, and know I am a good player in this division. I didn't start the season in the team, and because the centre halves were doing so well I found it hard to get back in.

"I was still club captain, and could have picked up a medal from sitting on the bench - but I want to play football.

"My ambition is to help Kidderminster survive, and then kick on because I reckon I can play at a higher level again."
