Kell signed a six-month deal at the start of the season after returning from a broken leg sustained in the Humber Derby against Hull two years ago, and after establishing himself in the first team again has been handed a longer contract.

Iron manager Brian Laws said: "I have seen a lot of players struggle to recover from a broken leg but he has proved everyone wrong.

"That is a great credit to him and shows just how hard he has worked to get himself fit again.

"We have extended his contract until the end of the season with a view to giving him at least another year after that."
