The 19-year-old was named in the squad to face Sweden on February 28, but has opted to play for Scunthorpe in a rearranged League One game at Vale Park instead.

His decision comes after Iron boss Brian Laws spoke to his Irish counterpart Don Givens on Tuesday morning.

Laws told the SUFC website: "I've spoken to Don and explained our situation, he could see our point of view and is happy to drop out of the squad."

With Keogh out of the match, United would have only been left with Steve Torpey, Tommy Johnson and Andy Parton as attacking options.
