The pair formed a formidable partnership in their season-and-half together at Glanford Park, helping the Iron to League One safety in 2005/06 and setting up last season's title success.

Wolves are leading the chase for Sharp, who hit 32 goals last term and is wanted by a host of Championship clubs.

"Billy is a top lad. He's a good friend of mine and a very good centre forward. If a deal happens he'd be a great addition to our squad," Keogh told the Birmingham Mail.

"He's just the type of young player the club are looking for with the right sort of desire and attitude which rubs off on everyone else and that's not to mention his talent - he's the sort of player we need to bring in to try and help us get to the Premiership.

"We're great mates off the pitch, we used to hang out together and managed to build up a good partnership at Scunthorpe. Billy will score goals in the Championship, no problem at all."
