Laws accepts result was right

The North Cumbrian side were good value for their 3-0 triumph, but the poor showing by United left somewhat of a bitter taste int he mouth.

"There is no point in me having a go at the players for this one result because they have worked so hard to get where we are in the table," Laws told the Scunthorpe Evening Telegraph.

"What we have to do now is ana lyse what went wrong at Carlisle and work to quickly put it right.

"I would like to think that Sat urday was just a hiccup. We have been doing tremendously well, let's not spoil it with this one result.

"What we need to do now is start on another run.

"At the end of the day we got what we deserved at Carlisle.

"We have made some errors at the back and it has really cost us.

"But it could have proved so very different if we had put away our early chances.

Missed open goal
"Martin Carruthers has gone through on a one v one and on his recent form you would have ex pected him to put it in the back of the net but this time he has missed the target.

"I must admit I thought Carlisle's first goal was offside but I still thought at 1-0 down we would get back in the game if we stayed pa tient.

"We were having a lot of the ball, putting them under a lot of pressure and creating a lot of chances.

"I warned my players before the game to be aware of the pitch be cause I knew it was going to kick up awful.

"I knew it was going to be a leveller. While it was in good con dition earlier in the season Carlisle found it difficult because other teams were better than they are.

"All of a sudden this is a leveller and brings us down to that level.

"You just cannot pass the ball properly. When you try it goes off in any direction.

"You have got to adopt a horses for courses approach and some times you have to be ‘ugly' with your style of play.

"You can't always win by being the best footballing side.
Struck Post

"I still felt at half-time we could get back into it and we were so unlucky when Andy Dawson hit the post.

"Had that gone in then nervous ness could have come into it for Carlisle because they are not used to being in front.

"I would have fancied our chances to go on and take the game but then another mistake has cost us a third goal, with Carl Bradshaw trying to be too clever, and that has killed the game.
