Laws backed for Forest job

Stone, currently out with a long-term injury at Championship side Leeds United, feels that Laws has the right credentials for the job at the City Ground that became available after Gary Megson resigned last week.

As well as Laws, Stone also backs former Forest favourite manager Nigel Clough - son of legendary Reds manager Brian and currently Burton Albion boss, as a realistic option.

"Nigel would walk in and understand the club which is half the battle. He always gets a mention but he never seems to want it, now you have to think try and get him again," Stone told BBC Sport.

"I thought Laws might get a chance after Paul Hart left in 2004. He is someone who knows the lower leagues and has done brilliantly on a shoestring budget at Scunthorpe.

"Forest went for Frank Clark from Leyton Orient after Clough left. You thought then they would have gone for a bigger name but it shows that just because someone is not one of the favourites, he is not the wrong choice.

"Frank was really successful in the four years he was there and we finished third in the Premiership in 1995.

"So Lawsy must be an option, he has the knowledge and he also actually cares about the club. He has been there and played for them too."
