Laws: Good all-round performance

The win - sealed through Richie Hinds and Andy Crosby strikes - moves United onto 50 points, virtually securing League One Football again next season.

Laws said: "It was very much a tale of two halves. In the first-half Chesterfield used the conditions to get the ball forward quickly and made it very difficult for us in the wind.

"But after the break we did exactly the same to them. It was not a great spectacle but the important thing was the points and we are delighted with the win.

"At half-time I told the players that that is what is going to happen with conditions like this and we started the second-half like a house on fire.

"We were right on top and it was only a matter of time before we equalised.

"It was a good all-round performance and I am talking in terms of decision-making. The football was secondary."

Spirites manager Roy McFarlane admitted: "It was a difficult game and we are struggling. The wind played a big part and we took advantage in the first-half.

"We had a good 45 minutes and should have had more than one goal. but there was nothing clinical to finish the moves off.

"It's becoming difficult because of the inexperience of the players. The young players are finding it difficult and they need the help and support but they can't get it from the senior players because they are all injured.

"We have to see it through but we just can't win a match at the moment.

"Our heads are dropping but one thing we won't do is desert the kids. We can't get off 51 points and it's a good thing we have got those points on board because we don't know where the next win is coming from."
