The 33-year-old central defender has been out of action since November through injury, but Laws has refused to deny speculation linking him with a return.

He told the Scunthorpe Telegraph: "Chris has been troubled by a calf strain.

"It's a situation we are monitoring, we are always looking at players with a view to strengthening the team.

"But the sort of players we will be looking to try and bring in are likely to be on a loan basis."

An Iron-Bru.net poll back in December showed that almost 80 per cent of Iron fans wanted the player, who left for £250,000 five years ago, to return to Glanford Park.

Gills boss Ronnie Jepson has also confirmed that all of his players are available for transfer in January as he tries to wheel and deal in order for his side to survive.

Laws' first target though is to sign a left back on loan due to an injury to Lee Ridley and a lack of match fitness for Marcus Williams.
