Laws opens talks with three

Laws yesterday told BBC Radio Humberside that he had looked into the background of Ian Fitzpatrick, who has been released by Halifax Town.

Today he went on to admit an interest in Paul Wheatcroft, recently released by Bolton Wanderers.

Adding onto the speculation over Mark Hughes, a move which seems unlikley, we have now registered an interest in three forwards who have all played for Manchester United.

Going back to Mark Hughes, Macclesfield Town have also registered an interest in the player whislt we even heard a rumour today that Darlington were chasing him.

However, we suspect that he is more likley to take up the Welsh managers job full-time to continue the excellent job he is doing there.

However the club suggest that none of these three are the players who are in talks with the club today.

The official website reports that the forward is 28, which rules out all three of these. It has been claimed elsewhere though that it is Wheatcroft who is in talks, one of these two sources must be wrong as the Manchester-born striker is only 22.

The club also say that talks are taking place with a midfielder and defender. The defender is likley to be a left-back, in case Andy Dawson moves on to Norwich.

Dawson's future remains unclear, although Norwich City say they will honour tomorrow's deadline for offering the player a contract. If they don't, there still remains a chance he will remain at Glanford Park - although there is likley to be interest from other first and second division clubs.
A midfielder however doesn't look to be needed, although a versatile winger now that Lee Hodges and Gareth Sheldon have moved on remains a possibility.
