Laws: Players were under pressure

A brace from top scorer Billy Sharp, coupled with a Matt Sparrow goal, saw United earn all three points in the League One clash at Glanford Park.

Laws knew his squad could have been easily distracted after he admitted to having an interview with Championship side Sheffield Wednesday over becoming their new manager.

"I knew the players were under pressure because of outside influences following what has happened this week," he said.

"I told them we could do nothing about matters off the field and to concentrate on the football on it.

"The situation with Sheffield Wednesday is that I have been offered nothing yet for me to consider.

"But it will take an exceptional offer for me to leave Scunthorpe, where I have been for the last 10 years and at a time when this club has got the best young squad it has had for many years."

Orient boss Martin Ling lamented his side's defensive frailties, admitting his side's form away from Brisbane Road could cost them dear.

"We have not yet conceded less than two goals on our travels this season, and you don't win matches doing that," he said.

"Perhaps we will have to change our system of play away from home.

"I know we are still bottom but what we have shown during October suggests we can compete in this league."
