United were tipped for a season of struggle by many this season, but they already have 20 points on the board and are flying high in the play-off positions.

And Laws has highlighted the understanding between Sharp and Keogh, both 19, as key to the impressive early season results.

The pair have hit 14 goals between them this season, with Sharp – a £100,000 capture from Sheffield United - grabbing eight.

And they both scored on Friday night as a five run losing streak was ended with a 2-0 win at Tranmere.

"At 19 they've both got a lot of learning to do, but so far they are forging a formidable partnership," Laws told PA Sport.

"They know each other's strength, where they should position themselves and where they want the ball played and it’s not easy to get that even with the most experienced players.

"I told them when they arrived it was important they get to know each other off the pitch and I think they've taken that a bit too literally because you can’t get a wedge between them."
