Laws said: "It was important we got a result after last week's diabolical display at Barnsley.
"We were organised, angry and physically on top of our game. The team as a whole were together and we knew if we made them work hard under pressure they would crack.
"We looked solid at the back, our counter-attacking and set plays were huge bonuses and this sets us up nicely to win games.
"We showed great mental strength to respond to their penalty and go on to win the game."
Forest boss Gary Megson said: "They had four shots at goal, scored three goals but there was nothing in the sides in the first half.
"We were fortunate to get the penalty, but we showed a lack of organisation and leadership."
