United head into the game against the Saddlers sitting fifth in the League One table after an impressive season start.

With just two defeats to their name, both on the road, from the opening nine games the Iron are confounding the critics who predicted a swift return to the basement division.

Despite two successive losses, to Doncaster last weekend and Birmingham in the Carling Cup on Tuesday, Laws reckons Walsall will fear United.

Laws told PA Sport: "They'll think they won't be in for an easy game after the way we have started in League One.

"Our confidence is high and there's no doubt we are one of the form teams.

"It has gone well for us, and teams will give us a little more respect.

"But there is a long way to go and our aim is to collect as many points as possible and stay where we are in the table."

Walsall boss Paul Merson will hand a debut to goalkeeper John Ruddy on Saturday, after he joined the club on loan from Premiership side Everton.

The highly-rated 18-year-old has been signed as a replacement for first choice keeper Andy Oakes - who injured his wrist while warming up for last Saturday's game against Chesterfield.

Defender Steve Staunton is fit again following a calf injury, and Julian Bennet returns from suspension.

But the Saddlers are without Ian Roper (hamstring), Darren Wrack (broken ankle) and Daryll Taylor (knee).
