Last night's FA Cup win over Second Division Barnsley came at a substantial cost for United, with strikers Steve MacLean and Paul Hayes both picking up injuries.

MacLean has a suspected groin strain and could be out for several weeks, while Hayes went over on his ankle.

With reserve striker Andy Parton also out with a back injury picked up while on loan at Unibond League side Harrogate Town the club only have one recognised striker available in the shape of Steve Torpey.

Laws told the official website: "I'm trying to rush two players in for Saturday and now I might need four, it is very difficult for us at the moment with injuries."

Since Laws made these comments the club have now stated that they expect to bring three players in on loan tomorrow.

He added: "I have to get my thinking cap on and try and strengthen the squad as quickly as I can.

"I have agreed with the clubs concerned to bring in two players and I want them in for Thursday.

"The only problem is that neither of them are strikers and we are now struggling in that area. In a one off situation I might throw in Jamie McCombe again on Saturday."

Veteran winger Peter Beagrie is still struggling and will not be fit for Saturday.
